New Years Eve 2011

This year I am spending the New Year in Ellijay, GA with a group of college friends. Since almost everyone has graduated and moved away from Orlando the only time we ever get to see each other are for big events like weddings, UCF homecoming football games, holiday vacations, and I'm sure sometime in the future baby shower. We've headed up to Ellijay once before for a spring break in the mountains and it was a blast - we went horseback riding, climbed a mountain, had bonfires in the back yard, and watched Deliverance (a "horror/thriller/utter-crap" movie that was filmed on the same river that the house we stay in is on).

We still have no official plans for New Years, but me and the girls have decided we want to dress up - even if we do just end up hanging out at the house.

This would be such an adorable outfit to wear for the occassion!

Merry Christmas!!

I hope that everyone has a very merry and blessed Christmas!

This year December 25th is going to be a quite day for my family beause my dad is out of the states for work. It will just me, my mom, and my grandfather, and we will be going to church and then having a small dinner.

We will be celebrating a late Christmas in the beginning of January once my dad is home - my sister, brother-in-law, and nephew will be in town from Michigan, and my younger sister will be in town as well. We will be celebrating Baby O's (my nephew) first Christmas with lots of presents!

Secret Santa Pays Off KMART Layaway Accounts

This story is just so inspiring. It makes me truly believe that amidst all of the selfishness, conceitedness, and greediness, there really is some good still in the world.

Being a broke college student doesn’t allow me to do something like the man in this story did, but I try and do the best that I can. During high school I organized canned food drives for Thanksgiving, and now I donate money whenever I can – mostly involves dropping a few dollars into the Salvation Army buckets in front of stores this time of year.

Someday I would love to be able to do something like the man did by paying off peoples layaway bills.

So much more than a little black book...

While in the process of addressing Christmas cards I have realized just how unorganized I am. Sure, I wish I could be more organized and I usually try with to-do lists, my darling Lilly Pulitzer Agenda, and my wall calender, but to no avail my organization skills are greatly lacking.

At the moment my "address book" consists of torn off labels from envelopes of everyones address (tacky, yes, I know) I just have never had to time to sit down and write them all down into an actually address book. I might just have to go out and purchase one of the following address books in order to keep one of my other New Years Resolutions of being more organized in 2012.

gybe-ho boatwear giveaway hosted by Nautical by Nature

I recently came across a great company, gybe-ho boatwear, through another blog, Nautical by Nature, who is having an amazing giveaway this week.

Looking through their website I found some great t-shirts that I am adding to my Christmas gift list – my parents and my aunt would love some of their items! I also found an adorable t-shirt for my little nephew, Oren! And since we are celebrating Christmas a few weeks late because my dad is off working on a boat in the Caribbean I still have plenty of time to order them and have them at the house in time for "late-Christmas" as we are calling it.

These are a few of my favorite items:

Since I love all things Massachusetts this t-shirt is perfect for me! Also interested in getting a Florida one, too!

Love this shirt - it's a long sleeve tee and so great for the holidays!

Super cute!

Perfect shirt for my nephew, Oren. My parents named their dinghy to their sailboat after him (their first grandchild), so obviously he has sailing in his blood!

Check out Nautical by Natures blog and enter the giveaway to win an awesome custom shirt!

Kate Spade Color of the Month - NAVY!

So this is my first Polyvore set - I have seen it on so many other blogs and I thought I would give it a try - and what better way to test it out that with the Kate Spade color of the month.

I simply love all things navy - it is the best way to transition all things nautical from summer into your fall and winter wardrobe. And with so many Christmas and New Years party's on the horizon I had to glam it up with some glitter.

Welcome back!

Just as I have gone through many changes since 2009, so has this blog. It has been remodeled, neglected, revisited, edited, reformatted, and restructured, but it has always been something in the back of my mind that I would like to expand upon. In my attempts to turn this into something I can be proud of, I am starting one of my New Year’s Resolutions a little early – I am hoping to get more in touch with my blogging self and be more open and willing to document things in my life. I also am interested in following and being involved on other peoples blogs – there are so many great blogs that I follow and am interested in interacting with them.

Cheers to the holidays!

Beachin' it!

One of my favorite things in the world to do is go to the beach. Today was such a perfect day to go. All of the tourists are out of the FL beaches and it wasn't to hot that you can't stand being outside more than 15 minutes. The only downside were the jellyfish that were bigger than my head.

Nevertheless, it was such a fun day!!

Fall Saturdays in the south = COLLEGE FOOTBALL!

I got to go to my first fall 2011 UCF football game a few weekends ago. Aside from the cooler weather (okay, in Florida that doesn't usually happen until November), there is nothing more that I look forward to than college footballs games. I just love cheering on my school to victory.

We played Boston College and it was epic! It was the first time we were ever playing a BCS team...

AND WE KICKED THIER BUTTS!

The Knights ended up beating the BC Eagles 30-3!

busy, busy bee.

So basically this is what my life is going to consist of until December...

Seeing this list of everything that I still have to do just stresses me out. I would love for there to be more lines of yellow highlighting in there to relieve some of the pain. The sad part is that this isn't even everything. I still have 2 finals to add that I don't know the date for yet, and copious amounts of online Italian homework that my professor hasn't assigned dates for yet either. I prefer to work ahead in online classes, but with this one I can't. :-(

I am super excited about all of my classes and even some of the assignments but boy does it all add up and really zap the energy from ya.

Hope everyone else is having a great semester so far!

Oren!

My nephew was born back in May, and I finally got to meet him at the end of July for his Baptism.

This is one of my favorite pictures of him and I, but I'm sure there will be many more to come!

Oy vey

This shows the location of Irene from a few days ago, now she is in North Carolina

Watching The Weather Channels coverage of Hurricane Irene is seriously stressing me out, more so than it does when the hurricane is heading directly for me.

Maybe it’s because I have grown up with hurricanes as a way of life and I know exactly what to do in case of an emergency. I have always had a hurricane kit hidden somewhere in my house so I don’t have to be scrambling at the last minute for flashlights, batteries, bottled water and canned soup. I know that if it is a particularly bad hurricane you sanitize your bathtub and fill it up with water because you may or may not have clean water for a few days.

The horror stories that I have heard from friends and family are ridiculous. All of the stores in the cities (Irene is heading for 4 major ones – Washington D.C., Philadelphia, New York City, and Boston) are completely packed with people and they are getting violent.

I hope that all of my family and friends from North Carolina to Maine that are in the path of the storm stay safe over the next few days!!

What is the one place, that every time you leave, you feel as if you are leaving a part of yourself behind?

In one form or another, I have been asked this question by so many people over the past few days. In discussions of post-graduation life, potential graduate school programs, and career choices, my friends and I keep coming back to this one question.

I think today I finally realized where this place is for me.

I used to think that it was Florida, specifically Ft. Lauderdale where I grew up. Sure, I have so many memories there and it will always be considered my home but I have nothing really keeping me in Florida. My parents, who still live there, are planning on moving onto their sailboat within the next few years and do a lot of traveling, and my younger sister who goes to school in Tampa is probably planning on moving as well once she graduates. The rest of my family is all in the northeast.

I also used to think that Philadelphia was the place for me. I am a diehard Phillies and Eagles fan because I grew up watching them with my grandfather. All of my mom’s side of the family lives there. When I was applying to college for my undergrad the only two out-of-state schools I applied (and got accepted) to were in Philly – and I was broken hearted when I found out I couldn’t go. I love to visit my family there and miss them when I leave, but I rarely miss the actual place, the city, or anything really around it.

I have a million and one memories from Massachusetts (specifically eastern Mass. but who’s keeping track). I love it. Weird, I know. I have so many memories. I don’t think I could ever in good conscience root for any athletic teams from there (unless they are playing against NY… I still hold my grudge against all things NY from when the Yankees beat the Phillies in the World Series a few years back). But I love thinking about all of the times that I have spent there…

… Spending summers at my grandfather’s house in Chatham,

… Harwich Junior Theater (don't judge, I was totally a theater geek back in the day).

… Riding bike through the sand dunes to get to P-Town

… My first trip to Boston (including all things touristy – duck boats, swan boats, taking a picture outside Cheers, etc.)

… The countless cruise summers I spent in Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, and New Bedford (yes, New Bedford…if you've ver been there, you know what I mean).

This doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of all of my great memories (some just aren't appropriate to blog about), but every time I leave I feel like I'm leaving a piece of me behind.

Heck I am even a sucker for a good accent and I love Massachusetts/Boston accents.

What my life has turned into...

singing Fleetwood Mac into a ladle as I dance around the kitchen and unload the dishwasher.

I am so okay with this scenario.

You know you're in love when you don't want to fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams. ~Dr. Seuss

I still can't believe that two weeks ago my roommate of five years married the love of her life. It was such an amazing wedding and it was so great to see so many people that I hadn't seen in awhile.

I wish Audrey and Paul the best in everything they do!
